Focus and Scope

BERITA SEDIMENTOLOGI aims to disseminate knowledge on the field of sedimentary geology to its readers. The journal welcomes contributions in the form of original research articles, review articles, short communications and discussions and replies. Occasionally, Berita Sedimentologi also includes field trip reports and book reviews, which are published only after going through peer-review processes. The main geographical areas of interest are Indonesia and SE Asia, however contribution from the rest of the world is also welcome.

Berita Sedimentologi covers broad topics within sedimentary geology, particularly on depositional processes and their records in the rocks, petrology, sedimentology and stratigraphy of both siliciclastic and carbonate rocks; sequence stratigraphy, paleontology, biostratigraphy and sedimentary geochemistry. The journal also accepts articles on interdisciplinary research in sedimentary basin analysis, including large-scale basin geodynamics processes, mechanism of sedimentary basin formation, earth surface processes, sediment routing systems, petroleum geoscience and applied sedimentary geology analysis for mining and engineering geology.

Peer Review Process

The peer-review process is an important part of Berita Sedimentologi publication to ensure that published articles meet the standard of scientific communication. The authors are expected to report a study that is well-structured and follows scientific method. The manuscripts must refer appropriately to previous work in relevant field, show logical reasoning and evidences to back-up claims/conclusions and use language that is easy to understand.

Every manuscript received by the Editors will be reviewed by at least 2 anonymous peer-reviewers who are specialists in their field. The reviewers include internationally-recognized experts in universities, research institutions and industry. Berita Sedimentologi has been unique as it is well-supported by reviewers who possess international industry experience combined with strong academic background.

The Editors are responsible to make final decision regarding manuscript acceptance and sometimes, the decision may not be similar to recommendations from one or more reviewers. When taking the final decision regarding the fate of a submitted manuscript, the Editors will honor different views while encouraging discussions that can be generated from the publication and most of all, maintain the standing of Berita Sedimentologi as a reliable journal within the scientific community.

The peer-reviewers will assess the following criteria:
• Paper’s significance to adding new knowledge or provoking discussions.
• Data and interpretation are clearly separated. Interpretation is justified by the data.
• Sound analysis and logical reasoning.
• Conclusions are plausible and supported by the data.
• Paper is well-organized, focused, easy to read and to understand.
• Clear figures with proper figure captions to support the authors’ points.

The peer-reviewers are expected to provide comments and suggestions about the manuscript in a polite, objective and constructive manner. The reviewers identify both the strength and weakness of the manuscript, and provide justification and support for their comments and recommendation to the Editors. The entire peer-review process may take between 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the amount of editing and the number of revisions requested by the peer-reviewers.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Downloading papers from this journal is completely free of charge.

 

Plagiarism Screening

BERITA SEDIMENTOLOGI highly values scientific integrity and the originality of every manuscript that is submitted to the journal. While the journal right now still hasn't subscribed to any professional plagiarism screening services, the Editorial Team and assigned reviewers always do their best to ensure that any plagiarized manuscript will not be accepted for publication.

If a suspected plagiarism occurs and its similarity to previously published work is over 20% (approximately), then the Editor-in-Chief will reject the submission and return the manuscript to the author. 

 

Article Processing Charges

FOSI doesn't require article processing charges from author(s) who wants to publish their work in Berita Sedimentologi. Publishing in Berita Sedimentologi is completely free of charges.
